THE “Fishermen’s Church” of St Thomas in Parkgate has been re-roofed and restored thanks to the dedicated work and fundraising of parishioners.

Now internal restoration has started, after receiving listed building consent during June of this year, using the services of local firms and selected skilled craftsmen.

This new phase of the work inlcudes a new central heating system, renewal of gas, water and electrical services. Remodelling of the interior will continue throughout the year and, subject to further successful fundraising, into 2009.

The grounds of St Thomas’s Church have, both before and during the restoration period, been maintained on a voluntary basis by dedicated volunteer parishioners.

More funds are needed to take the church through this stage of refurbishment and redecoration If you would like to know more, or would be interested in using the building in the future for your community group, a member of the trust would be pleased to show you round.
