FUNDING has been secured to offer Wirral children the chance to take part in free creative writing workshops this summer.

Wirral based literary arts organisation, Read Now Write Now, has been successful in obtaining funding from Arts Council England to deliver a series of creative writing workshops across the Liverpool City Region on the theme of climate change over the summer.

The workshops will take place in schools, libraries and online to help young people write powerful and inspiring stories that can be included in a published anthology, displayed in local libraries as well as read out at special storytelling events.

Charlie Lea, creative director of Read Now Write Now, said: “Climate change is the biggest issue facing the earth and we all need to do something to help tackle it before it is too late.

“Young people are our future and many of them are already passionate and active about climate change and want to inspire others to take an active role as well.

“To make the stories authentic, we are working with national climate change charity, Hope for the Future as well as Wirral Council’s climate change team.

“The anthology will be added to Wirral Libraries catalogue as a published and e-book for all to read and find out what they can do to save our planet.

“I also hope that seeing their work displayed in an anthology, in libraries and at special storytelling events, especially during Wirral’s Borough of Culture year, young people taking part will receive a well needed boost to their wellbeing, confidence and help them develop their writing skills.”

One of the courses will take place at Birkenhead Library on Saturdays 11th, 18th and 25th May from 10am to 12pm and bookings are now being taken. For more information or to book, please contact charles@readnowwritenow.org.uk.
