A MAJOR Wirral road has been closed off by police after reports of a shooting.
At around 10.30pm last night, Tuesday, March 26, officers were called to New Chester Road in Rock Ferry to reports of shots being fired at around 10.05pm.
No injuries were caused and no damage has been found at the time of writing.
Detectives are appealing for information and officers are continuing CCTV, house-to-house, and witness enquiries this morning (Wednesday, March 27).
A road closure is in place on New Chester Road from Thorburn Close to Dell Grove while these enquiries are carried out.
Merseyside Police are asking people to avoid the area where possible.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson from our Firearms Investigation Team said: "Our initial enquiries suggest that this was a targeted incident, and we're looking to establish the full circumstances and find those responsible.
"If you live in the area or were passing by and saw, heard or captured anything, including anyone running away from the scene, please come forward.
"Although nobody was injured, to fire a gun in a residential street is incredibly reckless and can have devastating consequences.
"Officers will remain in the area carrying out enquiries today, and I want to assure those people who live and work nearby that we will be relentless in removing those responsible and their weapon from the streets.
"Tell us what you know, and we will do the rest.
“Anyone with information, including home CCTV, dashcam or ring doorbell footage, is urged to contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously and 0800 555 111, with reference 24000288908.”
