The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport visited Port Sunlight to see first-hand how money from his department is being spent to help the Lady Lever Art Gallery.

The grade-II listed building is home to an impressive collection of fine and decorative arts, and has been given £225,000 of funding provided by Andrew Burnham's department.

The money has been spent improving access to the building with the creation of a new entrance and reception, the development of a flexible learning suite for use by schools, families, adult groups and individual visitors, and the creation of a new permanent gallery dedicated to Lady Lever's founder, William Hesketh Lever.

Mr Burnham said: "It is fantastic also to see first hand how the Foundation funding is improving accessibility and enjoyment of the Lady Lever Gallery and the many treasures it has in store."
