IF you went down to the woods at the weekend, you were definitely in for a big surprise...
Wallasey's Vale Park was transformed into a magical scene where fairies came to life, thanks to Wirral photographer Charlotte Bird, who had set up the extraordinary event to take photos to illustrate a new book.
Over 100 local children took part in the wedding ceremony' and the fairy procession that followed afterwards, with Wirral singer/songwriter Lisa Martin playing the flute and heading the fairy procession over the hills.
The book is about a fairy wedding that takes place in the imaginary Nettle woods and is one of three written by renowned Wirral author Royce Jones, with Charlotte doing all of the illustrations.
"It's lovely to be able to do something that you're really passionate about and love doing," said Charlotte. "It was the perfect place to do this as I wanted to catch all the blossom and bluebells at the park.
"We are also going to do a twilight procession in a few weeks with lanterns and candles."
Charlotte, who lives in Wallasey, has also written and illustrated her own book Tales from Fairyland' a mixture of her poetry and photographs.
