Stabbed to death on the doorstep
A BIRKENHEAD man who stabbed his sister's partner to death on the victim's own doorstep has been convicted of murder.
Carl Hunt had gone round to Graham Duncan's home in Sycamore Road, Birkenhead armed with a kitchen knife to continue an argument with his sister Tracey that had begun on the phone.
But her partner, 42-year-old Mr Duncan, answered the door and a heated argument began during which Mr Duncan fatally stabbed him.
31-year-old Hunt denied murder but was convicted by a Liverpool Crown Court jury and has been remanded in custody to await sentence on April 8.
During his trial the jury heard that that the incident on the evening of March 11 last year happened after Hunt and his sister rowed after she learnt from her 15-year-old daughter that he had been driving their father's car, which he should not have done.
He told his sister that he would come round and punch her and about 40 minutes later he arrived at her doorstep and an argument broke out with Mr Duncan and he punched him in the face at least once.
"They started scuffling and Hunt produced a black-handled kitchen knife and "deliberately stabbed him in the chest with sufficient force to penetrate his heart," alleged Richard Pratt, QC, prosecuting.
Mr Duncan, a father-of-two, collapsed to the ground and although paramedics tried to save his life he effectively died at the scene.
Hunt, of Harland Avenue, Tranmere, claimed that he had the knife with him just to scare Mr Duncan but the victim had fallen onto the knife.
