Katy is Wirral's own catwalk queen

| PASSION FOR FASHION: Katy O'Grady |
There aren't many girls that can say they've hung out with Kelly Osbourne and designed clothes for Sophie Ellis Bextor, but Wirral's Katy O'Grady did exactly that after making it to the penultimate show on to hit Sky One series Project Catwalk.
Project Catwalk is a reality show presented by Kelly Osborne where 14 wannabe fashion designers battle it out to reach the final and walk away with the £25,000 to put towards setting up their own fashion label.
The show sees host Kelly set contestants a set of challenges, from re-designing an airline to designing a red carpet dress, to test whether they could cut it in the notoriously difficult fashion industry.
Wirral-born Katy was one of thousands of hopefuls that applied for the show. She was chosen as one of the final 13 that would have to up sticks to London to live in the Project Catwalk house with the other contestants.
The series was filmed from July to September last year, but despite filming the show more than six months ago, Katy's departure was only broadcast on Sky One in mid-march.
Until now, the budding fashion designer has had to remain tight-lipped.
The 24 year-old said: "Being a part of Project Catwalk was such an amazing experience and I've learned so much from it but it was very hard.
"On paper, I was the most inexperienced of the contestants. I'd just finished my degree in fashion design, but I didn't really have any experience in making the clothes which was a major part of the show.
"But as the weeks went by I became more confident about my skills and in the end when I got kicked off the show I felt a little hard done by."
"I felt there were some people that got through to the final that shouldn't have done. Viv, for instance was one of the favourites to win the show but I felt this was based more around her TV personality' and not her skill as a designer.
"I wasn't surprised when I got voted off the show though and part of me feels that it has something to do with the fact that the winner of the first series was also a scouser."
Liverpool-born Kirsty Doyle, won the first series of Project Catwalk and is now following in Stella McCartney's footsteps and studying at the renowned St Martin's College in London.
Although part of Katy was not expecting to win, she was dreading the moment she was called as the next contestant to leave the show.
She said: "I was actually amazed at how well I managed to hold it together. I walked along the catwalk and stayed calm and composed but then as soon as I went out of sight I burst in to tears."
To help her get over the ordeal of being kicked off the show, Katy went on a night out in London with Kelly Osborne and judge Nick Ede, who has styled celebrities like Caprice to Meg Mathews.
She said: "I was the only contestant that got to go with Kelly, and I even managed to stay at her house. She was great to be around and to my face she was complimentary about my work, so then when I watched the show back and heard some of the things she said about me I was really surprised."
Some of the cutting comments Kelly made about Katy included saying she could "talk the talk, but couldn't walk the walk."
"I was a bit disgruntled by her comments as I thought it was a little two faced, but at the end of the day it's a reality show."
