Poor Shaftesbury concede 17 goals in cup tie
THE overdue Capitol Cup tie between Shaftesbury Youth and Egremont Ferry in the Wallasey & District Sunday League was a mismatch - the Ferry sailed to a double figure success.
John Pomphrett led the charge with five goals, supported by Ian Thomas, with four, and a brace from Lee McChrystal as Ferry romped into the next round with a stunning 17-1 victory.
The Joeys eased past Leasowe Alliance in a Dutchman Cup third round tie with a 4-0 victory. Ben Smith fired a superb hat-trick and an own goal completed the victory.
The Joeys now meet Division One champions Oyster Catcher in the next round.
The only Premier Division fixture saw Poulton Royal scupper Ship FC 3-1, thanks to a Sean Roony double and a single from Dave Favager to help them maintain an outside chance of the title.
In Division One, Rose & Crown did a Manchester United as they romped home 3-0 against Townfield, Lee Dermody notching two goals and Joe Williams the other to keep Rose & Crown in third place and dent Townfield's promotion hopes.
Pilot Boat had to rely on an own goal to help them get a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Windsor, for whom Joe McKeown was on target.
Division Two action saw Liscard Bronze galvanise top spot with a 2-0 victory over Farmers Arms. Scott Tebb bagged a double.
A solitary Steve Dutton goal gave Young Lions the points in a hard-fought match against FC Victoria.
Goals by Daryl Hellon and Peter Cain earned Phoenix a 2-1 success over Mackenzies, who replied through Simon Parsonage.
This Sunday (March 30) sees the Premier Division Cup Final being played at Poulton Victoria FC as The Office take on The Tower (kick-off 11am).
